Overview
The Industrial Development Department (the Industry Department) has been part of the Ministry since 1991. Its objective is to develop Guyana’s industrial base and make local industry more competitive.
Strategies
- Develop and monitor activities on industrial estates in three administrative regions
- Build industry competitiveness through capacity building for specific sectors, stakeholder meetings, review of existing legislation, a draft industrial policy and promotional materials

- Encourage small and medium enterprises to modernise their factory operations
- Regularise urban planning
- Support manufacturing and private sector employment
